Zahara de los Atunes is one of the few typically Spanish towns along the Costa de la Luz. The fishing village is populated by approx. 2,000 people. Quality fish restaurants offer fresh fish directly from the sea. "Atun" means tuna. Thus, the town's name originates from the century-old tradition of tuna-fishing. The long and sandy beach invites sunbathing and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean . However, its hinterland has also retained its natural beauty and offers hiking trips amongst other possibilities. Zahara de los Atunas is located a few kilometres off the N340. The coastal road leads from Malaga via Algeciras , Tarifa, Conil, Chiclana, Cadiz up to Jerez de la Frontera and Sevilla.
