Antequera is near Ronda and other "white villages" of the Inland Med, in a spectacular high plateau set in lakes, lagoons and rolling hills, strategically placed between Malaga & Cordoba, between Seville & Granada. The "4 Corners" District where these provinces meet is hospitable, sport- & family-friendly, with a mild non-humid year round microclimate, fresh in summer, warm in winter.
Although Antequera has the greatest number of historic-artistic monuments per inhabitant in Spain , and great natural, architectural & cultural beauty, prices are still quite reasonable. This "City of Art" has all the ameni-ties of a sophisticated town of 50,000 inhabitants, as well as many no-fee parks, concerts, & museums - but no toll roads, traffic jams or tour groups.
Known from Roman times as the "crossroads of Andalucia", even today Antequera is rated as the 9th best connected city in the whole of Spain , with a charter air-port under construction. Antequera has excellent access to a wide variety of both city & nature activities, including the Wolf Park Refuge with stables & petting zoo -one of a kind in Europe.
Surrounded by holiday attractions, Aantequera lies between seven major natural resources: the unique El Torcal Park with fascinating limestone forma-tions; the Flamingo/Waterbird Lagoon, the largest salt lake in Spain;
the El Chorro climbing site, rated the best in Andalusia;
the Tres Lagos lakes, which supply Malaga Province with most of its water;
the caverns of Ardales and La Pileta, with 20,000 year old paintings;
the three ancient underground ceremo-nial chambers called Dolmens, & the legendary Lovers´ Leap cliff featured in Neolithic cave paintings. Antequera is located directly on the famous GR7 footpath, the EU walking, riding & biking greenway stretching from Tarifa at the Atlantic entrance to the Straits of Gibraltar all along the Mediterranean to Athens .
